NBCI 2.0 (Full Version) (14.49 MB)
The National Bobwhite Conservation Initiative (NBCI) is the unified range-wide strategy of 25 state wildlife agencies, with numerous conservation group and research institution partners, to achieve widespread restoration of native grassland habitats and huntable populations of wild quail. The landscape-scale, habitat-based strategic plan establishes the first-ever national vision and road map for habitat restoration and population recovery. The initiative is providing crucial national leadership, coordination and service capacity to help states and our partners accelerate implementation of the strategic plan.
The NBCI strategic plan includes:
- A massive, living online database detailing the habitat restoration feasibility (high, medium, low, none) of 600 million acres across 25 states and 17 ecological Bird Conservation Regions, down to the local level;
- Localized habitat prescriptions for restoring recreationally viable populations of wild bobwhites across the landscape, including an array of constraints, opportunities and management actions necessary to increase populations in specific settings;
- A suite of mapping applications and web-based tools to help biologists to identify, plan and implement projects that offer the greatest return on investment … the “most bobwhites for the bucks.”
